12/19/07 Jewett City

Around 16:15hrs the Jewett City and Griswold Fire Departments were dispatched to 111 Main St., Jewett City Savings Bank for a Fire Alarm. Jewett City Chief Smith was first on scene with nothing showing and the building evacuated. Further investigation found a moderate smoke condition in the basement. Car 56 established command, requested Lisbon ET-254 to the scene and the first due Engine to stretch a line through the Ashland St. entrance. Firefighters found the fire to be burning in the furnace room with no extension to the rest of the building. Companies remained on scene for approximately one hour. No injuries were reported and the Griswold FMO is investigating.
