Norwich (City)
Firefighters from Norwich were summoned for a structure fire this morning around 01:30 at the Peachtree Apartments located on West Ledge Drive. First in Norwich companies had there hands full, heavy fire was showing from multiple apartments and there were reports of people still in the building. A Second and third alarm was requested adding all five Norwich volunteer departments and finally ending at a sixth alarm with other companies in staging and covering stations. Numerous other support vehicles also responded to the scene to assist. As the sun came up firefighters were still trying to gain the upper hand. Approximately 100 apartments were destroyed by the fire with the remainder having smoke and water damage. As of 11:30 departments were still on scene and will probably remain for some time. I was able to get some pictures and some were sent to me, check out other Blog sites for more photos.

Jewett City
Firefighters from Jewett City contained a fire in a commercial building Wednesday afternoon. While companies were responding to a grass fire QV dispatch notified them of a structure fire at the former Triangle Wire factory on East Main Street. Plainfield Fire Department was assigned to the grass fire, while Jewett City redirected units to the factory and added Griswold, Lisbon, Voluntown and the FAST from Taftville to the assignment. First in companies found heavy fire showing from the roof and moderate smoke emitting from the building. Due to the size of the complex and time of day a full first alarm assignment with was started. Units from Plainfield, Baltic, Taftville, Occum, Mohegan Tribe second FAST and the American Rehab unit responded to the scene or was placed into staging. Firefighters mounted an interior attack knocking down the main body of fire, while a truck crew from Taftville went to work opening up the roof exposing some hot spots. All companies cleared the scene about three hours later with no firefighter injuries reported. The Griswold FMO is investigating.
