04/28/09 Jewett City

Jewett City firefighters extinguished this vehicle fire on Norman Rd. early Tuesday afternoon. Chief Smith (Car 56) was first to arrive and found an active fire in the engine compartment with a single story wood frame as an exposure. ET-156 arrived soon after and was able to keep the fire contained to the truck. Companies cleared the scene a short time later, the Griswold FMO is investigating.

04/26/09 Preston (Poquetanuck)

Shortly after 2am Poquetanuck and Preston City Fire Departments were requested to Miller Rd. for a brush fire with a barn as an exposure. Chief Cassie (P-1) arrived to find a fully involved barn fire nearly on the ground requesting Gales Ferry and Ledyard be added to the assignment. Companies worked into the night extinguishing hot spots while mutual aid Companies covered empty Preston stations.







04/22/09 Lisbon

Lisbon Fire and Ambulance were dispatched to a vehicle into a house in the area of 526 River Rd. Wednesday morning. Around 02:30 Chief Robinson (Car 54) arrived to find one car into a house, one patient with serious injuries. Rescue 554 along with an American Medic transported to Backus Hospital in Norwich.

04/21/09 New Haven LODD

It is with deepest regret and sorrow to report the line-of-duty of Fire Fighter Patrick J. Reardon of IAFF Local 825 - New Haven, Connecticut. Brother Reardon, 42, passed away on Tuesday, April 21, 2009 from a fall.
The wake will be held on Sunday, April 26, 2009 from 2:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Monahan, Cox, Smith & Crimmins Funeral Home, 11 Wooster Place, New Haven, Connecticut 06510, (203) 865-6147. The funeral will be held on Monday, April 27, 2009 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Lawrence Church, 207 Main Street, West Haven, Connecticut 06516.
The staging area for uniformed personnel will be at the New Haven Regional Fire Academy, 230 Ella Brasso Boulevard, New Haven, Connecticut at 7:30 a.m. on Monday. Buses will be transporting from staging area to funeral and back to your vehicles.

04/15/09 Jewett City

Firefighters from Jewett City extinguished this vehicle fire behind the Slater Mill off of Rt. 138 last night. Station 56 was requested to respond shortly after 18:00, first due engine found the vehicle fully involved. The Griswold FMO is investigating.

04/14/09 Norwich (Yantic)

At 03:30 on Tuesday morning firefighters from Yantic, Taftville and the City of Norwich were dispatched to 326 Washington St., Backus Hospital, for a fire alarm. Units arrived to find a smoldering fire in the duct work on the D wing. As companies went to work Command requested a FAST from Mohegan Tribe to the scene and a company to cover Yantic. After about a half hour the scene was placed under with some units holding. The Norwich FMO is investigating.

04/12/09 Groton (City)

Around 18:00hrs on Easter Sunday the City of Groton Fire Department was requested to respond to 14 School St. for a reported kitchen fire. First due companies found a 2 story wood frame duplex with smoke showing from the Delta side first floor. With all occupants accounted for, Groton City stretched a hand line through the side door to take control of the fire. A first alarm was requested at 18:10 adding Sub Base for a FAST, Engine out of Electric Boat, Groton Ambulance and a paramedic from Lawrence & Memorial Hospital. Firefighters were able to make a quick knockdown keeping the main body of fire to the kitchen area. In all a total of four people were displaced by the blaze and were assisted by the American Red Cross. No firefighter injuries were reported.

04/07/09 Westerly RI.

Some pics that were sent in from Westerly yesterday. Firefighters responded to 10 Pearl St. around 16:30 for a reported structure fire. Units arrived to find smoke showing from a 2.5 story OMD with one person trapped. The victim was removed and firefighters were able to control the blaze with the help of mutual aid.

Members of the Niantic and Flanders Departments got together at the Old Saybrook training facility Tuesday night. Firefighters went over some basic truck and engine co. operations.
