On Thursday evening around 22:00 the Taftville Department was requested to respond to 15 Hunters Ave. for a fire alarm. First arriving officer, Deputy Chief Dupuis, found heavy smoke emitting from the top two floors of a three story occupied apartment building. With two exposures of the same size on the Bravo and Delta sides, mutual aid was requested from Occum, Yantic, Norwich (Truck) and Mohegan Tribe (FAST) into the scene with a truck from Baltic and an engine from Jewett City into staging. After being pulled out a few times for defensive operations, Companies were able to get the upper hand. The blaze was kept to the original fire building. One firefighter was sent to Backus Hospital for observation.
