In the early afternoon hours of September 14, Jewett City Fire Department and Griswold Ambulance were requested to respond to American Industries on Plainfield Rd., also known as Route 12, for a injured person as a result of an explosion of a conveyor system. First due Jewett City units found two patients with injuries and an active fire in a storage container. Rescue Lieutenant LePage (Car 756) requested that Engine Tank 156 and 355 with an additional ambulance be added to the assignment. Firefighters were able to contain the blaze and the two patients were transported to Backus Hospital in Norwich. The Griswold FMO and OSHA are investigating the cause of the explosion, no other information is available at this time.
