6/22/07 Jewett City

On June 22 around 20:00hrs the Jewett City Fire Department responded to a vehicle into a house, in the area of 172 North Main St. Rescue 456 arrived and found one vehicle into a house with minor damage and no injuries. Station 56 secured the vehicle and turned the scene over to CSP.

6/19/07 Griswold

On June 19, at 11:22 the Griswold Fire Dept. with mutual aid from Jewett City were dispatched to 659 Voluntown Rd. ( Sunoco Gas Station ) for a Propane Tank Fire. Griswold ET-355 arrived to find a active fire involving a trailer carrying a propane tank. Firefighters from Station 55 stretched a 2" line and knocked the fire down within a few minutes. Jewett City ET-156 was placed into staging on Rt-138. Griswold crews remained on scene for a short time assisting with the Griswold Fire Marshal. No injuries were reported.

5/5/07 Jewett City W/F

On May 5 at 21:58hrs A.A. Young Jr. Hose & Ladder Co. with mutual aid from Griswold, Lisbon, Voluntown and the FAST from Taftville were dispatched to 47 Fairview Ave. for a Structure Fire. Car 256 arrived to find a 2 1/2 story wood frame fully involved with ammunition exploding inside. Tankers from Plainfield and Canterbury along with full assignments from Lisbon and Voluntown were added to the assignment. Firefighters used master streams and hand lines to contain the fire. Companies remained on scene for many hours extinguishing hot spots and assisting the Griswold Fire Marshal. No injuries were reported.

4/19/07 Jewett City

The A.A. Young Jr. Hose & Ladder Co. was dispatched at 17:11hrs to 52 East Main St. for Smoke in the Building. Jewett City Chief Smith arrived to find a 1 1/2 story residential with smoke showing. Engine and Truck Companies arrived shortly after and stretched a "crosslay" through the front door and found a active fire located in a bedroom on the "D" side. Interior crews with the help of a quick vent team knocked the fire down within a few minutes. Jewett City units remained on scene to assist the Griswold Fire Marshal with his investigation. Companies cleared by 18:30hrs. No injuries were reported.

2006 FDNY

We took a recent trip to the great City of New York to Buff some fires. Bad thing was, there were no fires. We spent the night and part of the next day following some companies out of Manhattan and were able to get some nice photos. Here are some that I have and I'll post more in the weeks to come. We have another trip coming up soon so hopefully we'll get some more good action shots.

Car Fire Training

Mashpee Ma.

On a recent trip to visit some family in Cape Cod we stopped by Mashpee Fire Department Headquarters to get a picture of their station. For those who don't know Mashpee is located in the Upper Cape off Route 28.

3/10/07 Jewett City

On the evening of March 10, 2007 at 20:03hrs members of the Jewett City Fire Dept. and Griswold Ambulance were dispatched to the area of 223 North Main St. for a Roll-Over with Injuries. First arriving officers found one vehicle on it's side on a steep embankment with one occupant still in the vehicle. Deputy Chief Jen Blake established North Main St. Command and notified QV dispatch of one patient pinned in the vehicle. Griswold Fire Dept. Rescue 455 was started for additional extrication equipment. The occupant died from their injuries. Firefighters remained on scene for approximately 4 hours assisting the Connecticut State Police with their investigation.

2/28/07 Jewett City

On the evening of February 28 around 18:00hrs the Jewett City Fire Dept. was called to the area of 100 Lilly Pond Rd. for a car into a tree. Engine Captain Jim Lepage arrived on scene to find one vehicle into a tree with no patient. Truck Lieutenant Bob Hanson was responding to the scene and found a person walking down Route 12 that needed medical attention. After looking at the windshield of the crash vehicle and the face of the patient walking on Route 12, it was determined that this patient was the driver of the vehicle. The Griswold Ambulance was directed to the scene on Route 12 and Jewett City Fire handled the call on Lilly Pond Rd. All Companies returned to service about a 1/2 hour later. Jan. 2007 East Hampton

The East Hampton Fire Dept. works to control this fire in a strip mall located on RT-66 at Old Marlborough Rd. Thanks to Brian Mulvey for these photos.

12-20-06 Jewett City

On the December 20 the A.A. Young Jr. Hose and Ladder Co. responded to 30 Soule St. for a structure fire. ET-156 arrived on scene to find a three story wood frame apartment building with smoke showing. Crews gained entry to find a room and contents fire in a basement apartment with all occupants out of the building. Mutual Aid was cancelled enroute with the exception of Griswold ET-355. Companies cleared about an hour later.

Well it's been awhile since my last posting. I just recently moved so I have not had much time. Until I can get some new pictures I will post some more I have from the past. Pictured here is East Great Plain N-55 on the day it arrived back from being refurbished into a ladder truck. For those that don't recall this was formally known as N-51 and was first running Engine on most calls long ago.

1999 Norwich

In March of 1999 the Norwich Fire Department worked to control this fire at the corner of Prospect and Howard Streets in the City's Greenville section.

East Hampton Ladder 112

Around 1991 my father and I responded mutual aid to Portland for a Structure Fire at St. Mary's Church on Route 66. I was too young to do anything so I decided to grab the camera and put it to good use.
