At 04:05 Jewett City with mutual aid from Griswold, Lisbon and the FAST from Taftville were alerted for a structure fire at 209 North Main Street. Luckily enough a passing motorist noticed the flames and smoke emitting from the house and stopped to call 911. The neighbors were evacuated, but the residence of the fire apartment were still inside. When first due companies arrived they had a two-story wood frame duplex with fire showing from the basement Alpha- Bravo corner, unsure if the residents made it out yet, the crew from ET-156 stretched a 2" attack line while the Ladder crew went in for the primary search. Firefighters searched the first and second floors to find that all occupants were accounted for with fire extending into the first floor. The first in hose line encountered high heat and zero visibility upon entry of the basement. Firefighters made a quick knockdown keeping the fire contained to the basement with minor extension into the first floor. One occupant was transported to the hospital for smoke inhalation and one firefighter was treated on scene for exhaustion. All companies were cleared by 06:30, the Griswold FMO is investigating.
