12-20-06 Jewett City


On the December 20 the A.A. Young Jr. Hose and Ladder Co. responded to 30 Soule St. for a structure fire. ET-156 arrived on scene to find a three story wood frame apartment building with smoke showing. Crews gained entry to find a room and contents fire in a basement apartment with all occupants out of the building. Mutual Aid was cancelled enroute with the exception of Griswold ET-355. Companies cleared about an hour later.

2003 Norwich Fire Department

A crew from Tower One investigate a possible structure fire on the city's East Side in 2003. I was just driving by so I don't have much information on this.

Well it's been awhile since my last posting. I just recently moved so I have not had much time. Until I can get some new pictures I will post some more I have from the past. Pictured here is East Great Plain N-55 on the day it arrived back from being refurbished into a ladder truck. For those that don't recall this was formally known as N-51 and was first running Engine on most calls long ago.

In March of 1999 the Norwich Fire Department worked to control this fire at the corner of Prospect and Howard Streets in the City's Greenville section.

Around 1991 my father and I responded mutual aid to Portland for a Structure Fire at St. Mary's Church on Route 66. I was too young to do anything so I decided to grab the camera and put it to good use.

5-18-06 Taftville Fire Dept.

On may 18, 2006 Taftville Fire Dept. responded to a basement fire on Old Canterbury Rd. around 17:30hrs. First arriving ET-21 found smoke showing from the rear of the building. Mutual Aid was requested from Occum and the FAST from Yantic.

3-14-06 Laurel Hill Fire Co.



On March 14, 2006 Laurel Hill Fire Co. Responded to an Oil spill from a home heating truck on Route 12 in the area of the Norwich State Hospital. On arrival it was determined the truck was carrying Kerosene and motor oil was leaking from the engine block. Route 12 had an oil slick from Route 12 and 2A North to Hillcrest Dr. in Norwich covering about a 1/2 mile. Route 12 was closed for approximately 2.5 hours while firefighters and DEP contained the spill and cleaned up.

On March 20 around 14:30hrs the Yantic Fire Engine Co. responded to a car fire on Otrobando Ave. at New London Tpke. Engine 32 and Engine 31 (background) in operation.

2-26-06 Mohegan

Around 21:30hrs the Mohegan Fire Company along with Mutual Aid from Montville and Oakdale were dispatched to the new Chili's on Route 32 for a structure fire. First due M-23 found active fire showing from the roof. Notification was made to Mohegan Tribe for there FAST. Companies remained on scene for approximatley 2 hours with one minor injury reported. October 23, 2005 City of Norwich

City of Norwich Fire Dept. contains a well involved fire at the Norwich Apartments on Sandy Lane. Mutuial Aid was provided by Taftville and Mohegan Tribes FAST. Sorry for the poor quality.

January 27, 2006 East Great Plain MVA



East Great Plain Rescue 5 operates at a MVA with minor injuries on West Main St. in front of Papa Gino's. American Ambulance transported patients to Backus Hospital.

January 29, 2006 City of Norwich Working Fire




At 03:31hrs Norwich Fire Dispatched Squad A, Engine 2, Engine 3 and Tower 1 for a Structure Fire in the area of 61 Boswell Ave. Squad A was first on scene to report a fully involved 2 1/2 story wood frame. The fire had already extended to the exposure on the D side, and was starting to spread to the exposure on the B side. The main fire building was vacant and people from the exposure buildings were safely evacuated. Mutual Aid was provided by Taftville and Mohegan Tribe FAST. East Great Plain covered City of Norwich Headquaters and Occum covered the Taftville station.
