12/07/08 Niantic

Niantic Fire Department was dispatched for a reported roof collapse
at Citizens Bank on Pennsylvania Ave. Sunday night. Truck 1 (B-15) arrived and found that the wind got the better half of this suspended ceiling in the drive through section. Caution tape was placed around the area and the key holder was notified. Units took up a short time later.

11/30/08 Norwich (Greenville)




City of Norwich firefighters battle this multi alarm fire at 229 Central Ave. in the Greenville section of the City overnight. First in companies had heavy fire on two floors requesting a second alarm on arrival and all city volunteers in to there quarters. Norwich firefighters were hampered with the interior layout of the building and were forced to bail out from the upper floors. Companies remained on scene into the morning hours still extinguishing hot spots. Two Norwich firefighters were transported for injuries. Best wishes for a speedy recovery.

11/4/08 Groton City

November 4, 2008 around 22:00 Groton City with mutual aid from Sub Base, Electric Boat and the L+M Medics responded to Pine Island Rd. for a structure fire. First in companies had active fire on arrival. This fire was located on the same road as a previous working fire the night before. Groton City made quick work knocking this fire down preventing further damage to the rest of the home. Companies held the scene for awhile checking for extension.

11/04/08 Jewett City

On November 4, at 13:00 Jewett City firefighters responded to this three car motor vehicle accident on Route 12 at Lily Pond Rd. One patient was transported ALS by Griswold Ambulance to Backus Hospital in Norwich. Jewett City remained on scene for a short time assisting the CSP.

10/30/08 Niantic

Around 01:30 Niantic and Flanders Fire Departments were dispatched to this structure fire at 53 Crescent Ave. in the Black Point section of town. First reports were for a fire on the porch but when first due companies arrived they found a 2.5 story apartment house with active fire on the upper floors. Mohegan Tribe sent the FAST while other companies provided coverage. While this fire was raging another call came in for a structure fire about two miles away in the town of Waterford. More pics from this and the Waterford fire should be coming soon.

10/22/08 Salem Burn House

Members of the Pfizer Fire Dept., Emergency Services and Fire Brigade participated in there annual live burn training at the Salem burn house located on Route 82. This was one of two burns Pfizer conducted at the house this month.

10/20/08 Griswold

Members of Griswold Fire and Ambulance responded to this one vehicle roll over on Interstate 395 in the area of Exit 85 Monday night. Station 55 and Griswold Ambulance arrived and found a one car on it's roof in the Northbound lane. One patient had self extricated prior to units arriving with no injuries. Companies remained on scene for a short time obtaining information and assisting the CSP.

10/18/08 Taftville

Yea I know, It's been awhile. Recently moved down to the shore line and finally settling in. A few pics that were sent to me from a two car MVA on Norwich Ave. with five patients transported, if I'm correct, in Taftville Saturday afternoon.

06/24/08 Mystic

Some pictures of Mystic's fire at 11 Velvet Ln. Tuesday evening. Groton Fire Alarm dispatched a Box plus assignment for Mystic adding the FAST from Sub Base, Mystic River Ambulance and Medic 12 around 18:30. First arriving officers reported smoke and fire showing. Firefighters made a good stop knocking the fire down soon after arrival.

5/20/08 Jewett City

Firefighters from Jewett City and Griswold Ambulance responded to this vehicle into a propane tank behind the Haven Health Care center on Preston Rd. Tuesday afternoon. First arriving companies found a SUV that had rolled down the parking lot striking a stationary tank. The driver was already out of the vehicle when the Blazer started to roll, the passenger was unable to do so. The passenger refused treatment by EMS while firefighters secured the scene setting up a perimeter and relocating one wing of the Health Care facility. Griswold Fire ET-355 was requested for a water supply if needed. Companies remained on scene for about two hours until the SUV was removed and the tank was secured. No firefighter injuries were reported.

63rd Annual Tri-State Firefighters Meet

Firefighters and family from around the region meet at the Brooklyn Fairgrounds in Brooklyn, Ct. Sunday. The 63rd Annual Tri-State Firefighters Meet was held and fire apparatus from CT, RI and MA along with DEP Units and the Connecticut State Fire Marshall's vehicle were on display to name a few. Members of the Mortlake Fire Dept. held a vehicle extrication demonstration for spectators to see, while many others ventured around the food stands and exhibit hall. It was nice to stop by and see the many vendors on hand, Boston Fire Apparel, Fireground Images and Providence Fire Videos are just some of the displays. Below are some photos that I took from the grounds, I wasn't able to stay till the end so I don't have info on the apparatus awards.
