09/14/09 Jewett City

In the early afternoon hours of September 14, Jewett City Fire Department and Griswold Ambulance were requested to respond to American Industries on Plainfield Rd., also known as Route 12, for a injured person as a result of an explosion of a conveyor system. First due Jewett City units found two patients with injuries and an active fire in a storage container. Rescue Lieutenant LePage (Car 756) requested that Engine Tank 156 and 355 with an additional ambulance be added to the assignment. Firefighters were able to contain the blaze and the two patients were transported to Backus Hospital in Norwich. The Griswold FMO and OSHA are investigating the cause of the explosion, no other information is available at this time.

New Arrival for Flanders

Flanders Fire Department in East Lyme recently placed into service this 2009 Custom Heavy Rescue as B-27. This unit features a Ferrara Igniter XD XLFD with 21" Raised Command Roof Body, 12.5" Front Bumper Extension, Rear Facing EMS Compartments behind the Operator's Seat & Officer's Seat, Four Roof Top Compartments, Zip Dee Awnings on Both Sides and a Roof Access Ladder Mounted on Rear Officer side.

This Rescue will replace a 1988 E-One walk in.

A little over 24 hours after being placed in service, B-27 was assigned it's first run assisting Old Lyme Fire with a extensive extrication on Interstate 95

08/23/09 Old Lyme

Old Lyme Fire and Ambulance were requested to responded to Interstate 95 North bound, in the area of exits 70 and 71 for a motor vehicle accident involving a Tractor Trailer. Units arrived to find a Tractor Trailer on it's side, through the sound barrier, one confirmed pin and a total of five patients. Life Star and Life Flight were requested but were unable to fly due to the weather. With the driver heavily entrapped in the trucks passenger compartment, Command requested a Heavy Duty wrecker to the scene to assist with lifting. Additional Rescue Companies were requested from Old Saybrook, Essex and Flanders with numerous Ambulances from surrounding towns. After approximately three hours of work, the patient was removed from the wreckage and all patients were transported.
