At approximately 17:15 on Monday night East Lyme Emergency Communications alerted the Niantic and Flanders Departments for a reported structure fire at 12 Laveview Heights in the Niantic section of town. Niantic Captain Dan Summers (B-19-1) was one of the first units to arrive and found active fire showing from the C side of a 1 1/2 story cape with all occupants accounted for. A working fire was transmitted adding an additional Engine and FAST from Mohegan Tribe to the assignment.
First in crews found heavy fire in the kitchen area extending up the stair well to the second floor. An aggressive interior attack quickly knocked down the main body of fire preventing any additional fire spread. Additional crews made their way to the second floor and found only heat and smoke damage with no extension.
One firefighter was transported by POV for minor injuries. East Lyme FMO is investigating.
