Shortly after 10:00 New London firefighters were alerted to Lawrence & Memorial Hospital on Montauk Ave. for a structure fire. First Battalion arrived on scene and confirmed active fire showing on the exterior of the building adding a 2nd Alarm. Jordon W-15 and Sub Base C-25 (FAST) were added to the assignment along with numerous Ambulances to assist with relocating patients to other area hospitals. Further investigations found a large transformer was burning on the exterior of the building sending flame three stories high. Command requested a foam trailer from Norwich to respond to assist with fire suppression. Shortly after noon Command reported all visible fire was knocked down. A majority of mutual aid was released at 14:00 with units still holding the scene.
